Invensys Updates APC for Usability   Although advanced process control (APC) can greatly benefit plant performance, users often find it difficult to manage. Invensys is tackling this issue with a new version of its SimSci APC software, aimed at bringing ease of use to next-generation users. “The software was developed with the end user in mind, and it includes several well-thought-out features that help achieve better and more sustainable control of the process,” said Tom Kinney, vice president of Invensys’ optimization business.   Kinney pointed to several key features of the new software:   A built-in auto-discovery wizard captures the specific syntax of any DCS for faster buildup of tag connections. The acquisition of Heliox by a Siemens subsidiary has been cleared by the U.K.'s Competition and Market Authority. The regulator said on Friday that the planned merger between a subsidiary of the German industrial company--Siemens International Holding--and the Netherlands-based electric-vehicle charging specialist doesn't qualify for investigation. The watchdog had opened an investigation in late October to determine whether the deal would result in a substantial lessening of competition. Both groups operate in the e-mobility charging landscape. Siemens said in August that it would buy Heliox from Waterland, without disclosing financial details.
